Maintenance to Close One Lane of Richmond-San Rafael Bridge
Caltrans will be closing the westbound number 2 lane of the Richmond-San Rafael Bridge on Wednesday, February 28, between the hours of 10 AM and 2 PM.
Crews will be repairing an eight-foot-square section of the lane on the western, descending portion of the westbound bridge deck. Inspectors have noticed several potentially serious problems developing in the pavement. Maintenance managers felt it would be prudent to take care of these problems before any further deterioration takes place.
The westbound number 2 lane will be closed from the county line to the west end of the bridge. The eight-foot section of pavement will be ground out, and quick-drying cement poured in. Crews expect to have the job finished well in time for the afternoon commute. Permanent repairs to the bridge surface are scheduled to take place this summer.
As always, Caltrans asks drivers to "Slow In The Cone Zone," and to remember that traffic fines are doubled in construction/maintenance areas.
