Late Wednesday and Thursday nights, crews will grind and then pave the intersection at Hedding Street in preparation for the final traffic shift to the detour road. Once traffic is fully shifted early next year, the freeway construction can begin unimpeded.
Early Friday and Saturday mornings, crews will swing girders and beams over the roadway at Taylor Street to build the support structure for the future overcrossing and interchange.
These construction activities are part of the Route 87 Freeway Project, which is replacing the Guadalupe Parkway with a six-lane freeway between downtown San Jose and U.S. Route 101. There will be interchanges at Taylor Street and Skyport Drive. The freeway is scheduled to be completed in three to four years.
