ROUTE 87 CLOSED SATURDAY NIGHT
IN SAN JOSE CIVIC CENTER FOR FALSEWORK PLACEMENT
In order to erect falsework for the Taylor Street interchange, Route 87 will be closed in both directions beginning midnight Saturday, November 18 until 8 AM Sunday, November 19. Crews will need to swing girders and beams over the roadway, so motorists will be detoured in order to protect them.
Route 87 will be closed between Julian Street and Hedding Street. Traffic detours will take motorists between Julian Street, Market Street/Coleman Avenue and Hedding Street. Changeable message signs will be placed a week ahead in order to advise motorists of the upcoming closure.
The closure will only be required for one night. It will be rescheduled if rain is forecast.
The Taylor Street interchange will be one of two interchanges along the completed Route 87. It will feature sweeping vistas to downtown San Jose as the interchange rises over the freeway. The single-point urban interchange will move traffic more efficiently in a limited space. It is scheduled to open to traffic across the Guadalupe River in December 2001. The bridge was removed three years ago.
