237/880 OVERHEAD FREEWAY SIGN INSTALLATION
TO CLOSE FREEWAYS
MILPITAS—As the $67.5 million 237/880 interchange comes one step closer to completion, overhead signs will be placed tonight and tomorrow night on Route 237 and Interstate 880. By spring 2002, these signs will direct and separate local traffic to Calaveras Boulevard or McCarthy Boulevard while freeway traffic is directed onto the new connectors. The new interchange will help ease congestion through one of the busiest freeway links in the South Bay Area.
All lanes of eastbound 237 will be closed tonight from midnight until 5 AM between Zanker Road and McCarthy Boulevard. While the work is being done, traffic will be detoured via Zanker Road to Tasman Drive to Interstate 880. Motorists returning to 237 should use northbound 880 to the Route 237 exit.
On Wednesday, May 16, all lanes of southbound 880 will be closed from midnight until 5 AM between Dixon-Landing Road to the 237/880 interchange. During the closure, traffic will be detoured via Dixon-Landing Road to McCarthy Boulevard to return to either Route 237 or Interstate 880.
Motorists are advised to allow extra time for travel to and to pay attention to detour signs.
