Highway 101/Sir Francis Drake Repairs Scheduled;
Night Closures Set For This Week

This week, Caltrans maintenance crews will perform emergency repairs to the on-ramp leading from Sir Francis Drake Boulevard to Southbound Highway 101.

Over the past several years, tidal actions and heavy rains have combined to form a "void," or natural tunnel, under the surface of the on-ramp. Following the heavy rains we experienced this week, crews noticed that rainwater was being funneled through the void, and onto the surface of Sir Francis Drake Boulevard. The runoff is a danger to both the road surface and to motorists. The surface of the on-ramp is also at risk of damage.

Caltrans crews will pump a high-tech foam solution into the void. This should cut off the flow of water, and reduce the risk of further sinking and water erosion.

The repair operation will require closure of the on-ramp. To minimize the inconvenience, the work will be done at night. The schedule is as follows:

Monday, January 29,the on-ramp from Sir Francis Drake Boulevard to Southbound Highway 101 will be closed from 9PM until 5AM the following morning.

Tuesday, January 30, the on-ramp from Sir Francis Drake Boulevard to Southbound Highway 101 will be closed from 9PM until 5AM the following morning.
