Caltrans officials announced the closure of a portion of Highway 1 south of Stinson Beach is now set for Thursday, October 26, starting at 7 am. The closure will remain in effect for approximately sixty days. The road will be closed seven days a week.

Traffic will be detoured along Panoramic Highway, which intersects with Highway one at two locations; one, just south of Muir Beach, the other near Stinson Beach. Signs advising motorists of the detour will be posted along Highway 1 and Panoramic Highway.

The section of Highway 1 to be closed is an area, approximately one thousand feet in length, between the northern and southern intersections with Panoramic Highway. (See attached map.) The closed portion is not adjacent to any homes or businesses.

Crews will be constructing retaining walls along the highway. This particular area has suffered repeated damage by severe winter weather. The retaining walls will decrease the risk of further mudslides.

Marin County recently granted approval to proceed with the project. The project should be completed in late December.
