UPDATED ROAD CLOSURE FOR HIGHWAY 1NEAR STINSON BEACH
Caltrans officials announced today the closure of a portion of Highway 1 south of Stinson Beach has been set back until next week at the earliest. Crews are awaiting the delivery of some construction materials.
The section of Highway 1 to be closed is an area, approximately one thousand feet in length, between the northern and southern intersections with Panoramic Highway. The closed portion is not adjacent to any homes or businesses. Signs will be posted to advise motorists of the detour along Panoramic Highway.
Crews will be constructing retaining walls along the highway. This particular area has suffered repeated damage by severe winter weather. Recent tests showed the area is still at risk from mudslides. Construction of the retaining walls will decrease that risk.
Marin County recently granted approval to proceed with the project. The project should be completed in mid-December.
