ROAD CLOSURE RESCHEDULED
ON HIGHWAY 1 NEAR STINSON BEACH
One northbound lane to stay open on weekends
Caltrans officials announced today the closure of a portion of Highway 1 south of Stinson Beach has been RESCHEDULED for later this week. We apologize for any inconvenience or confusion.
A pre-construction planning meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, October 17th. At that time, final decisions will be made on the beginning closure date. An updated statement will be released at that time.
The section of Highway 1 to be closed is between the northern and southern intersections with Panoramic Highway. Local residents will be permitted to enter the area during construction. Signs will be posted to advise motorists of the detour along Panoramic Highway.
Crews will be constructing retaining walls along the highway. This particular area has suffered repeated damage by severe winter weather. Recent tests showed the area is still at risk from mudslides. Construction of the retaining walls will decrease that risk.
Marin County recently granted approval to proceed with the project. The project should be completed in mid-December.
WEEKDAYS: From one minute past Midnight Monday to Noon Friday, BOTH lanes will be closed. Traffic will be detoured to Panoramic Highway.
WEEKENDS: From Noon Friday to one minute past Midnight Monday, the northbound lane will be open to one-way traffic. The southbound lane will remain closed. Southbound traffic will still be detoured along Panoramic Highway.
