The FasTrak electronic toll collection system at the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge will add two mixed-use lanes next week, the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) has announced.

FasTrak will be installed in toll lanes #3 and 4 on the left side of the toll plaza and opened to traffic on Tuesday, June 12 at 5 am. This will accommodate I-580 traffic heading to Bay Bridge. Motorists paying with FasTrak, cash or commute tickets will be able to use these toll lanes.

With this addition, there will be a total of six FasTrak lanes at the Bay Bridge, one dedicated and five mixed-use lanes.

Later this month, more FasTrak additions and changes are planned for the San Mateo-Hayward Bridge.

Caltrans plans to install FasTrak in all toll lanes on all toll bridges by the end of this year.

So far, 140,000 transponders have been issued by Caltrans with new applications averaging 1,500 per week.
