DEDICATED FASTRAK LANE COMING TO
SAN MATEO-HAYWARD BRIDGE

The FasTrak electronic toll collection system at the San Mateo-Hayward Bridge will be converted to a dedicated FasTrak-only lane next week, the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) has announced.

FasTrak is currently a mixed-use lane in toll lane #5 and will become a dedicated lane on Wednesday, March 14 at 5 am. Toll lane #5 is located at the right center of the toll plaza.

Also this spring, two lanes on the left-hand side of the Bay Bridge toll plaza will be equipped with FasTrak to better serve commuters traveling from westbound I-580.

Caltrans plans to install FasTrak in all toll lanes on all toll bridges by the end of the year. Currently, the Dumbarton and Carquinez Bridges have FasTrak operating in all toll lanes.

So far, over 110,000 FasTrak transponders have been issued by Caltrans with new applications averaging 4,500 per week.
