FasTrak Lane to Open on Dumbarton Bridge Tomorrow
Before the morning commute begins tomorrow, Wednesday, December 20, 2000, Caltrans will open a FasTrak lane at the Dumbarton Bridge toll plaza. The Dumbarton Bridge is part of Route 84, which connects Interstate 880 in the East Bay with Highway 101 in the West Bay. It will be the first bridge in the South Bay to use the electronic toll collection system.
Motorists using the FasTrak system will enter the far left toll booth adjacent to the carpool lane. This toll booth, one of six at the Dumbarton toll plaza, will be dedicated to FasTrak.
(see map below for more details)
Drivers who wish to use the FasTrak system are urged get an application via the internet at: www.dot.ca.gov/fastrak. Applications can also be obtained by calling FasTrak at 888-725-TRAK.
FasTrak customers will receive a small wireless transponder that is easy to install inside the windshield of vehicle. Each time a motorist passes through the toll booth, an overhead antennae reads the transponder and deducts the appropriate toll amount from a prepaid or credit card account.
Two other remaining Bay Area bridges without the FasTrak system -- the San Mateo-Hayward Bridge and the Antioch Bridge -- are expected to come on line by December 31, 2000.
