Tonight's Scheduled Closures on I-80 Postponed Until Thursday night
for Bicycle/Pedestrian Bridge Work in Berkeley
Due to inclement weather, tonight's scheduled overnight freeway and ramp closures on Interstate 80 have been rescheduled for tomorrow night, April 12, for work on the City of Berkeley's bicycle/pedestrian overcrossing, which will span I-80 near University Avenue. All other work that was scheduled for earlier this week has been completed.
The closures are scheduled as follows, weather permitting, and are subject to change:
Thursday, April 12 to Friday, April 13
During the full freeway closure of eastbound I-80 early Friday morning, April 13, traffic will be detoured to the Ashby Avenue off-ramp, westbound on Ashby Avenue, northbound on San Pablo Avenue, then westbound on University Avenue, and then diverted back to eastbound I-80.
Al freeway lane and ramp closures and detour routes will be clearly marked to advise motorists. Traffic delays are expected, and motorists are advised to use alternate routes if possible.
The bicycle/pedestrian overcrossing will be a $4.5 million state-of-the-art steel arch structure that spans all lanes of I-80, connecting the City of Berkeley with its Marina. Construction of the bridge project, administered by the City of Berkeley, is expected to continue until Fall 2001.
