Emergency Repairs of San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge Completed
Caltrans crews have completed their repairs of a pothole in the Westbound #5 lane of the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge. Early this morning, crews have found a hole, roughly 12 inches in diameter, in the bridge deck. For safety reasons, bridge maintenance supervisors decided to close the lane immediately, rather than waiting for night hours.
Bridge maintenance crews finished their repairs at 2:05 PM this afternoon. Crews used quick-drying cement in order to re-open the lane as early as possible. On Thursday night, crews will return to the location to perform a more permanent fix. This particular section of the bridge had already been scheduled for a nighttime lane closure, for the purpose of filling potholes. Supervisors felt it would be easy enough to simply add this project to an operation already scheduled.
