EXTRA LANE ON EASTBOUND HWY. 92
OPENS TO TRAFFIC
TOMORROW
As part of the San Mateo-Hayward Bridge improvements, a new lane on eastbound Highway 92 between the Toll Plaza and I-880 will be opened to traffic tomorrow, Wednesday, June 13 at 5 am, Caltrans officials have announced.
Eastbound Hwy. 92 in this section will have three lanes of traffic instead of two after tomorrow’s opening. This is the first phase in a series of upgrades along the corridor.
Motorists should be advised that the roadway has been restriped and reconfigured to accommodate the extra lane.
On Thursday morning, June 14, an auxiliary/merge lane along westbound 92 between Hesperian Blvd. and Clawiter Road will be opened to traffic.
Within a few weeks, a third through lane on westbound Hwy. 92 from I-880 to the toll plaza will open along with a lengthening/reconfiguration of the carpool lane. Other improvements, including FasTrak, will be made at the toll plaza at that time.
These upgrades are part of a $155 million project to widen the San Mateo-Hayward Bridge and its approaches, currently the third-most congested commute corridor in the Bay Area. They are funded by MTC’s Regional Measure #1, passed by voters in 1988.
