THE CALIFORNIA PUBLIC RECORDS ACT (CPRA)
For requests pertaining to Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, Napa, San Francisco, San Mateo, Santa Clara, Solano, and Sonoma counties.

The California State Legislature has declared that access to information concerning the conduct of people's business is a fundamental and necessary right for every person in the state. Therefore, the media and the public have been given the right to inspect or obtain a copy of any public record, except those records that are legally exempt from public disclosure. Requests for documents can be made through the District 4 Public Records Coordinator who will work with Legal staff to determine whether it's appropriate to release the information. Some documents must be shared upon request however it is not required of all documents.
Members of the general public and media representatives must ask for specific documents by name or provide a specific description (e.g., time, date, location) so the documents can be identified. Frequently requested documents include:
- Engineering & Traffic Survey (Speed Zone Survey)
- Signal Light Timing
- As-Built Plans
- Right-of-Way Maps
- Maintenance and Incident Reports
- Construction Project Documents
- Contracting Bid & Award Documents
