The responses to contractors' inquiries, unless incorporated into a formal addenda to the contract, are not a part of the contract and are provided for the contractor's convenience only. In some instances, the question and answer may represent a summary of the matters discussed rather than a word-for-word recitation. The responses may be considered along with all other information furnished to prospective bidders for the purpose of bidding on the project. The availability or use of information provided in the responses to contractors' inquiries is not to be construed in any way as a waiver of the provisions of section 2-1.03 of the Standard Specifications or any other provision of the contract, the plans, Standard Specifications or Special Provisions, nor to excuse the contractor from full compliance with those contract requirements. Bidders are cautioned that subsequent responses or contract addenda may affect or vary a response previously given, and any such subsequent response or addenda should be taken into consideration when submitting a bid for the project. Inquiries submitted within seventy-two (72 ) hours of the bid opening date might not be addressed.

Regarding Bid Item 56 - 600mm C.I.D.H. piles. Are these piles reinforced? If so please provide details or standard plans reference.

The typical cross sections on Sheet X-2 show cold plane and ac overlay on Burchell road. This work is not shown on the layout sheets. Please clarify this discrepancy.

The Stage Construction Sheets for Stage 3 show removal of existing pavement along Route 152. This work is not detailed anywhere else in the contract plans or specifications. Please provide a layout drawing, construction detail, and bid item for this work.

  • Sheet SC-1 shows construction of the new bridge abutments at Uvas Creek separate from the rest of the work for the new Uvas Creek Bridge. Will Caltrans allow these abutments to be constructed outside of the Uvas Creek permitted work window of June 15 to November 15? If so, what other work will Caltrans allow at the Uvas Creek Bridge outside of the permitted work window?

    The work proposed at the Uvas Creek Bridge may not be completed in one permitted work window, described in Section 10-1.01 as June 15 to November 15 for the "first construction season only." However, the Contract only includes 200 working days, which is not enough time to include two permitted construction seasons. Please clarify this discrepancy. Does Caltrans intend on suspending the contract between the first and second permitted construction seasons at Uvas Creek?

    Bid Item 78 lists 17 M of "300MM Corrugated Steel Pipe." This work is not shown in the contract plans. Please clarify this discrepancy.

    Would Caltrans post an online link to the "Dewatering and Non-Storm Water Discharge Information Control Package" referenced on page 54 of the Special Provisions? The "Dewatering and Non-Storm Water Information" link currently posted on the Bidder's Inquiry website only contains Special Provision Section 10-1.04 and the Layout drawings already provided in the contract documents.

    Special Provision page 13 directs bidders to fax the Office of Structure Maintenance and Investigations to get a copy of the as-built drawings for the existing Uvas Creek Bridge. To date, this office has been non-responsive to our request for as-built drawings of the Uvas Creek Bridge. Could Caltrans post a link to these drawings on its online Bidder's Inquiries page or provide some other way for bidders to view these drawings?

  • Special Provision page 150 states the contract price per cubic meter for permeable material blanket (Bid Item 82) shall include furnishing and placing filter fabric. Bid Item 81 Filter Fabric appears to be paying for the filter fabric around the permeable material blanket. Please clarify this discrepancy and clearly define what work is to be paid under Bid Item 81.

    The typical cross section for A9 14+00 to 17+71 to A9 18+81.42 to 19+15 on sheet X-1 and A9 20+60 to 23+40 on sheet X-2 shows new roadway section constructed out to the edge of the existing traveled way of RT 152. The cross sections shown in the Stage Construction Drawings on sheets SC-2, SC-3, and SC-4 show new roadway section constructed out the edge of the existing pavement only. Please clarify this discrepancy and clearly define the limits of the new roadway section.

    The permanent casing at the north pier does not extend to rock as required by the Special Provisions.

    Based on the Layout Drawings and as-built plans of the existing Uvas Creek Bridge, shoring will be required along the RT 152 side of the abutment excavations for the new Uvas Creek Bridge. Will Caltrans allow this shoring to be abandoned in place once work is complete?

    Page 6 (Bid Items 61-80) of Addendum #2 is missing from the addenda documents.

    There are no changes on Page 6 of the bid items, so it was not included in the Addendum.

  • Bid Item #107 calls for Two-Component Paint Pavement Marking, and Quantities on PDQ-1 call out for Thermoplastic Pavement Marking, additionally, there is no Bid Item for Thermoplastic Pavement Marking. Also, on Page #155 of the Special Provisions, under 10-1.71, Paint Pavement Marking, it doesn't call out for Two-Component Paint Pavement Marking, Epoxy. Please provide clarification so that we may bid accordingly.

    Special Provision Section 5-1.10 Condition E on page 17 states "The Contractor shall clear all riparian vegetation&to 61 cm above ground&using only hand tools." Which clearing areas does this condition apply? The contract requires heavy equipment traffic throughout the riparian area as defined in Addendum # 2. If vegetation within the riparian area is cleared as described in Condition E, it will later be destroyed by heavy equipment traffic.

    What is the specified diameter for the soil nail hole?

    Refer to Section 10-1.35, "Soil Nail Assembly," paragraph 4 of subsection "Construction:" The Contractor shall determine the required drilled hole diameter and installation method to achieve the soil nail pullout resistance values specified on the plans.

    The intention is to have the last layer done concurrently with the overlay of the existing PCC and HMA pavements.

    Unless an addendum is issued, the bid date is scheduled for Nov. 14, 2008

    a) Re: Sheets 538 & 539, please provide the "HE" dimension for the type 736 SV barrier.

    b) RE: bid item #109- 900 KG rebar. What is this rebar for?

  • We have viewed cores for R-1 & R-2 in your Caltrans San Francisco materials lab, where are the written LOTB as are presented in the contract plan documents for B-1 thru B-4? When will they be made available? How are we to know the exact location of these samples?

    Cores for B-2 & B-3 have not been made available. When will they, and where are they? They were not made available or seen in Sacramento or San Francisco. Very important in determining the installation method, durations and anticipated tip elevation of the permanent casing that are designed for the Piers.
