The availability or use of information provided in the responses to contractors' inquiries is not to be construed in any way as a waiver of the provisions of section 2-1.03 of the Standard Specifications or any other provision of the contract, the plans, Standard Specifications or Special Provisions, nor to excuse the contractor from full compliance with those contract requirements. Bidders are cautioned that subsequent responses or contract addenda may affect or vary a response previously given, and any such subsequent response or addenda should be taken into consideration when submitting a bid for the project. Inquiries submitted within seventy-two (72 ) hours of the bid opening date might not be addressed.

I am working on the DVBE Good Faith Effort. Does the Dept. of Transportation have a list of DVBE's that we are required to solicit for this project?

See "Notice to Bidders and Special Provisions", "Amendments to the Standard Specifications, Dated July 1999", Section 2, "Proposal Requirements and Conditions" (replaced with Section 2, "Bidding"), Subsection 2-1.06, Disabled Veteran Business Enterprises. Can under slab power, lighting, and communication branch conduits that do not leave the building footprint be PVC? Can PVC be installed in CMU walls?

No. Refer to Section 12-16-02: BASIC MATERIALS AND METHODS of the Special Provisions.

a) Is there a pre bid walk? If so is the pre bid walk mandatory?

a) There is no pre-bid walk.

b) There is no PLA requirements. But prevailing wages are required on this Contract. You can obtain the wage rates at the CA Dept. of Industrial Relations Web site, http:///www.dir.ca.gov.

Drawing EE1-3 sheet note #3 requires us to connect air duct smoke detectors provided by the HVAC contractor. The drawings and specifications do not require the electrical contractor to provide a fire alarm system. Is a fire alarm system required for the new office bldg. and mechanic shop? If so please provide specifications and drawings indicating the system Caltrans requires.

There is no fire alarm system in this project.

  • Drawing EE1-3 sheet notes require us to provide telephone cables from each telephone symbol to the TTB. The drawings and specifications do not require the electrical contractor to provide telephone devices. Is the electrical contractor to provide a complete telephone system in the office bldg. and mechanic shop? If so please provide specifications and riser diagram indicating the devices required by Caltrans.

    Plan Sheet EE1-3 shows conduits, cables and telephone outlets. No other telephone device is required. Bid per the current contract bid documents.

    There are no there are no brand names furnaces and condensing units. Do we get to bid whatever brand we choose?

    I am inquiring about page 8 of the bid form for the project 04-207774 Fremont Maintenance Station.  Is the bid item Number the section that our subs are bidding on? Do we need name, telephone #, and certification along with the $ amount be the bid time? This is a lot of information that will be coming in the last ½ hour before the bid is due and we have someone sitting at your office to transfer the data onto the form. We are concerned with getting all the info on time. We also will have some unsolicited bids on bid day.

    Also page 12 for the small business, could we put name, city and certification and $ amount and get the address and phone number later?

    Are we required to include in the bid a bldrs risk policy or is it provided by the owner?

    The Bid Item No are from page 3 of the Bid Book.

    Yes, we'll need the name, telephone number and certification at time of bid.

    On the Utility sheets the stated scale is 1:400. What does the 400 mean?
