Protégé
Protégés are small firms seeking to grow their business and qualify their business for future Architectural & Engineering contracts with Caltrans or other public agencies. To be considered for Protégé status, the firm must:
Be certified as either a Small Business Enterprise, a Disadvantaged Business Enterprise, or a Disabled Veteran Business Enterprise. If a firm is not certified, it must demonstrate that it could qualify to be certified as a Small Business under the State of California process. Provide professional services that are procured within the Caltrans Architectural & Engineering program for the development of transportation projects. Such professional services include architectural, landscape architectural, environmental, engineering, land surveying, right of way engineering, construction engineering, construction management and project management services. It may also include incidental services such as permitting and environmental studies, design phase services, construction phase services, public outreach and meeting facilitation in conjunction with the primary professional service.
APPLY TO BE A PROTÉGÉ -
Once approved, Protégés are paired up with a Mentor. At the completion of the one year mentoring period, Protégés are expected to achieve the following development milestones at the completion of their term:
- Successfully prepare all necessary SF330 Documents for your respective firm
- Successfully implement accounting practices that are compliant with the Federal Accounting Regulations
- Successfully attain Small Business Certification if appropriate
- Successfully foster three new business contacts
