OFFICE OF HEALTH, SAFETY AND TRAINING
OFFICE OF HEALTH, SAFETY AND TRAINING: The Safety Program assists management in providing a safe and healthful work environment for all employees working within the District’s boundaries. Programs are designed to provide an increased awareness and a decrease in the number of employee motor vehicle accidents and work-related injuries/illnesses. The basic responsibility is implementation of the Department’s Injury & Illness Prevention Program (IIPP) and to enforce compliance with departmental policy, governmental law, and CALOSHA regulations as they pertain to worker safety. Some of the functions under this area include injury and illness prevention; wellness (including ergonomics); workers compensation and modified duty placement; reasonable accommodation; employee assistance; accident prevention, investigation and analysis; and operational field reviews and inspections.
The Training Program is responsible for coordinating and assessing the core training needs of the district and to design, develop and deliver various training programs that affect employees on a districtwide basis. They also coordinate and monitor special discretionary training needs of the Capital Outlay Support (COS) program. Another important function of this Program is the implementation of the District’s engineering rotation and mentoring programs.
