Caltrans District 4 I880 Mission

Work is progressing. Here are some photos of work taking place adjacent to the freeway that cannot be seen by those travelling on I-880: Near Term Traffic Changes -
  • Tentatively June 2008- Opening of the new southbound I-880 to eastbound Mission Boulevard (Route 262) connector. This traffic will no longer use the existing hook ramp.

  • Tentatively June 2008 - Closure of the existing hook ramp. This will require traffic from West Warren/Lakeview to Mission Boulevard to detour to Fremont Boulevard.

  • Tentatively July 2008 - Complete tunnel and open to traffic for travelers from northbound I-880 to Mission Boulevard.

  • The on-ramp from Kato/Warren Ave. into eastbound Route 262 (Mission) was closed on December 2007. Drivers coming out of NUMMI Road can access eastbound Route 262 via eastbound Warren, northbound Warm Spring Blvd. to Mission Boulevard. See Detour Map 4 | Camera Picture


  • The westbound Mission Boulvard to southbound I-880 and the westbound Mission Boulevard to northbound I-880 were opened June 2007 See attached for schematic drawing Picture. The northbound auxiliary lane between the west to north I-880 Connector and Fremont Boulevard is also now open.


  • Mid-August 2007 - additional southbound HOV lanes on I-880 opened south of the southbound Gateway on-ramp.


  • On and off-ramps from westbound Mission Boulevard (Route 262) to Kato Road are closed. The new Kato Overcrossing is open but access to the new bridge is changed. Westbound Mission Boulevard traffic may take Warm Springs to Warren Avenue to access Kato Road. Kato on-ramp traffic to westbound Mission/ to I-880 may take Kato Road, left on Warren, left on Warm Springs, left on Mission Boulevard to access I-880. Eastbound Mission Boulevard to Kato off-ramp (which is already closed) may continue to a right on Warm Springs and a right on Warren Avenue.

  • Full freeway closures from midnight to 5am (one night northbound, one night southbound). None Scheduled in April/May/June 2008. Next full freeway closure expected July 2008.


    • Northbound 880 will be closed:
    Midnight to 5:00 AM.

    Northbound 880 traffic will be directed to the following detour:
    NB 880 traffic to exit at Route 262 (Mission Boulevard)
    Left on Warm Springs Boulevard
    Left on Grimmer Boulevard
    Left on Fremont Boulevard
    Right onto NB 880 Onramp

    Southbound 880 will be closed:
    Midnight to 5:00 AM on:
    Southbound 880 traffic will be directed to the following detour:
    Southbound 880 traffic to exit at Warren Avenue
    Continue straight through the intersection onto Lakeview Boulevard
    Left at Gateway Boulevard onto the SB 880 Onramp

Upcoming Work on the Mission Blvd.(Route 262)/Warren Ave./I-880 IC Reconstruction Project (1-3 Months)

  • Work on Warren Avenue Overcrossing, SE (South I-880 to East Route 262) connector and NE (North I-880 to East Route 262) connector began in May 2007 and is continuing.

Upcoming Traffic Changes (3-6 Months Outlook)
  • West Warren/Lakeview to Mission Boulevard via the existing hook ramp will be closed to traffic. Traffic will be detoured to Fremont Boulevard.
