SCL 85 Pavement Rehabilitation Project

In Santa Clara County, on State Route 85, from 0.3 miles north of Stevens Creek Blvd overcrossing to Route 85/101 Separation.
Need & Purpose:
The Pavement within the project limits is showing minor distress and unacceptable ridding quality, which when left uncorrected will deteriorate to major roadway rehabilitation need. This project will improve the ride and extend the service life of the existing pavement.
Rehabilitate 33 lane-miles of roadway by cold planning, overlay roadway and ramps with rubberized asphalt concrete and open graded asphalt concrete to improve the ride quality, prevent further deterioration of the traveling surface and, minimize costly roadway repairs and extend the pavement service life. The existing concrete slab area will be replaced with concrete pavement. The existing AC area will be cold planed and placed with new rubberized asphalt concrete and open graded asphalt concrete. The project will also replace damaged crash cushions, replace/install metal beam guard rails (MBGR) at various locations, replace approach slab at bridges and perform isolated dugouts and repairs.
Construction of the project is expected to start in April 2012 and is scheduled to be completed by Summer, 2012.

Upon completion, this project will preserve and extend the life of existing pavement, as well as improve the ride for the traveling public and improve overall freeway system performance.
