The project runs through Sausalito, Marin City, and Mill Valley. The Highway 101 Marin pavement resurfacing project involves:
- Resurfacing an 8.5-mile portion of US 101 in Marin county. Once work is completed, motorists will have a smoother ride along this portion of roadway. The contract was awarded to Ghilotti Brothers Incorporated in February, with construction costs totaling $21,000,000. The repaving is one of several construction projects within the US 101 corridor. Work began in early May with completion slated for Fall.
In Marin County, on U.S. 101, in and near Sausalito, Corte Madera, Larkspur, from Golden Gate Bridge to Corte Madera Creek.
Need and Purpose:
The freeway and ramps pavement within project limits is showing distress and is in need of repair, which when left uncorrected will deteriorate to major roadway rehabilitation. The purpose of the project is to preserve the existing pavement structural section and extend the pavement service life for at least 5 years. The project will reduce the future maintenance costs and also improve the ride quality and overall freeway system performance.
The project will replace severely damaged asphalt concrete (AC) pavement sections with new asphalt concrete pavement and place a preventive overlay of asphalt concrete on the mainline and the on/off ramps. The project will also replace or reconstruct metal beam guard rails at various locations. Most work will be performed during night time. Some of the freeway lanes will be closed to perform this work. On/-off ramps will be closed only at night for paving and reopen for traffic during the day. Drivers have to detour per approved detour plans during ramp closure.
