Highway 101/East Blithedale Off-Ramp Improvement
THIS PROJECT IS NOW COMPLETE
Overview: The southbound off-ramp from Highway 101 to Highway 131 (East
Blithedale Avenue) is reaching the point where it can no longer handle the
ever-increasing number of vehicles. During peak hours, traffic sometimes
backs up all the way to the beginning of the off-ramp. This is creating a
potentially dangerous situation. Caltrans engineers designed a plan to relieve the congestion and reduce the threat of accidents. The off-ramp will be widened from one lane to two. At the bottom of the ramp, an additional turning lane will be added, bringing the number from three to four.
The engineers gave much thought to the aesthetics of the design. This interchange is regarded by many as the gateway to the towns of Mill Valley, Tiburon, and several other towns.
