Caltrans District 3 Environmental Management staff consists of a group of highly skilled professionals who are committed to working with the public, other agencies and interested parties/groups as a partner to insure that transportation needs are met in the Tahoe Basin and that the Lake Tahoe Environmental Improvement Program is implemented while avoiding or minimizing impacts to the environment. Our goal is to provide high quality, comprehensive environmental documents that inform the public, the agencies and the decision-makers about the project as it relates to the environment.


The mission of the Caltrans environmental program:

  • Complying with state and federal environmental regulations.
  • Encouraging the public to participate in the environmental evaluation process;
  • Determining the environmental consequences of our activities;
  • Proposing prudent, feasible and cost effective strategies and alternatives to avoid or minimize adverse impacts of the Department's activities, and;
  • Ensuring the mitigation selected is appropriate.
