Sacramento Area Bus/Carpool Lanes

YES, BUS/CARPOOL LANES IN THE SACRAMENTO AREA REALLY ARE WORKING.
Sacramento’s Bus/Carpool lane network is a work in progress. Bus/Carpool lanes work best when there is a complete system of inter-connected Bus/Carpool lanes, Bus/Carpool bypass on-ramps, direct Bus/Carpool access ramps at freeway interchanges, ramp metering and other system features.
There are 48.5 centerline miles of additional lanes in project development for I-5, U.S. 50 and I-80.
- I-5 -- Hood/Franklin Road to U.S. 50 (16 miles).
- U.S. 50 -- Downtown Sacramento to Sunrise Blvd. and El Dorado Hills Blvd. to South Shingle Springs Road (19.5 miles).
- I-80 -- Caltrans Workers Memorial Bridge (aka Bright Bend Bridge) to Longview Drive (13 miles).
The existing network is 33.9 miles. The near-term (5-10 year) objective is 82.4 centerline miles of regional Bus/Carpool Lanes lanes.
The long-term goal is for an integrated network of Bus/Carpool Lanes lanes on most Sacramento area freeways:
- I-5 -- Elk Grove to the Sacramento International Airport Interchange.
- U.S. 50 -- West Sacramento (I-80) to Placerville.
- State Route 65 -- Roseville (I-80) to Lincoln.
- I-80 -- Davis (State Route 113) to Roseville (State Route 65).
- State Route 99 -- Elk Grove to Yuba County (State Route 70).
