Westbound Traffic Detoured to
Eastbound Lanes
on Interstate 80 Near Donner
Soda
Springs
– The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) announced today that
starting Tuesday, April 15, 2008, motorists traveling westbound on Interstate
80 (I-80) near Donner Summit will be detoured to the eastbound lanes of the
interstate. There will be two lanes
available for motorists for each direction of traffic. East and westbound traffic will be separated
by concrete barriers. Just west of the
Soda Springs exit, the detour will end and westbound motorists will be redirected
back to the westbound lanes of I-80. The
detour will remain in place throughout the 2008 construction season and is
necessary to take motorists away from the westbound lanes so work can begin on
the demolition of the westbound portion of the
The
above work is part of a $65 million project which includes replacement of the
Castle Peak Bridge, replacement of the existing road surface with new,
steel-reinforced Portland Cement Concrete, realignment of the westbound curve
just east of Soda Springs, improving roadside drainage and replacing culverts,
and the establishment of a wetland and riparian area. The project is scheduled for completion in
the fall of 2009.
Motorists
are reminded to use caution when traveling through the detour, and to “Slow For
the Cone Zone”.
