Northbound Bedford Avenue at U.S. Highway 50 Closed Through June

Placerville - The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) announced today that starting Friday, April 4, 2008, the northbound lanes of Bedford Avenue between Main Street and U.S. Highway 50 (Highway 50) will be closed through June.  The closure is necessary for construction work on the Bedford Avenue Bridge over Hangtown Creek.

Motorists traveling on Highway 50 will be able to access Main Street via the southbound lanes of Bedford Avenue.  Motorists traveling on Main Street wishing to access Highway 50 will need to use Spring Street or Canal Street.  Pedestrians will also be able to access Highway 50 and Main Street along the west shoulder of Bedford Avenue and will be shielded from vehicular traffic with concrete barriers.

The above work is part of a $35 million project to improve Highway 50 through central Placerville.  Completion is expected in the fall of 2009.

Motorists are advised to use caution when traveling through the work area and to “Slow For The Cone Zone”.
