Caltrans Names Auburn Square and Compass Club “Volunteer of the Year”

 

Marysville – The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) District 3 Adopt-A-Highway Program will honor the Auburn Square and Compass Club with their  “2007 Volunteer of the Year” award for the club’s outstanding efforts in keeping a portion of Interstate 80 clean.

 

The group (comprised solely of 80 plus year-old volunteers) adopted their site on May 31, 1995.  They have been picking up litter along Interstate 80 between Ophir and Russell Road.

 

The award will be presented on Tuesday, April 15th at 11:30 a.m. at the Sizzler Restaurant, 13570 Lincoln Way in Auburn. 

 

Caltrans launched the Adopt-A-Highway Program in October 1989.  The Program has over 4,100 participating volunteer and sponsor groups, providing the Department and taxpayers with services valued at over $15 million each year.

 

Caltrans District 3 is responsible for 1,450 miles of State Highway in 11 Sacramento Valley and Northern Sierra counties.  It is also the North Region office, which oversees the interrelated functions of Divisions committed to Project Delivery within the 22 counties of Districts 1, 2 and 3.
