TAHOE CITY -
The California Department of Transportation announced they will be closing State Highway 89 South today, March 24, 2006, in El Dorado County, between Eagle Falls Campground and Bliss State Park from noon until 6 p.m. The closure is necessary in order to fell a boulder the size of a pick-up truck perched precariously above the highway.Caltrans maintenance crews noticed the position of the boulder yesterday. The Caltrans Geotechnical unit in Sacramento was notified and a geologist was dispatched to review the site. It was determined that the boulder needs to come down as a safety precaution.
