CALTRANS TO PRESENT PLANS FOR U.S. HIGHWAY 50

IMPROVEMENT PROJECT THROUGH PLACERVILLE

PLACERVILLE – The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) will present its plans for a future U.S. Highway 50 improvement project through Placerville at an open house scheduled for Wednesday, January 25.

The public is invited to review project features and discuss project impacts with Caltrans staff at the open house being held at the Placerville Town Hall, 549 Main Street in Placerville, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Wednesday.

Caltrans is proposing improvements to traffic circulation during both peak and off-peak periods on U.S. Highway 50 through Placerville with the following project features:

Eastbound auxiliary/acceleration lane from the Placerville Drive on-ramp to east of Bedford Avenue

New Placerville Drive to Main Street connector

Realign eastbound Placerville Drive on-ramp

Signal upgrades at intersections with U.S. Highway 50

Street widening at U.S. Highway 50 intersections to increase vehicle storage

Lengthening of left-turn lanes and median improvements

Removal of sewer lines from Hangtown Creek and other utility relocation work

Replacement of two U.S. Highway 50 bridge structures, widening of Hangtown Creek bridges at Canal Street and State Highway 49 (Spring Street), replacement bridge at Bedford Avenue, a new bridge on the new connector, and six new retaining walls

Various aesthetic features and Transportation Enhancement Activity (TEA) grant improvements
