Ramp & freeway closures scheduled at I-80/Douglas Blvd. interchange

Roseville - The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) announced today that beginning January 13, I-80 traffic at Douglas Boulevard in Roseville will be subject to overnight detours and a long-term ramp closure while crews erect false-work and continue work to improve the interchange.

Weather permitting, on Wednesday and Thursday, January 13 and 14, eastbound I-80 traffic at Douglas Blvd. will be detoured between midnight and 4 a.m. On January 17 and 18, westbound I-80 traffic will also be subject to a short detour between midnight and 4:00 a.m. Eastbound I-80 traffic will be taken off the freeway at Douglas Boulevard and detoured via North Sunrise Avenue to Eureka Road where they will return to I-80. Westbound I-80 traffic will exit the Freeway at Atlantic Street and be detoured via Harding Boulevard to Douglas Boulevard where they will return to I-80.

Weather permitting, on Monday January 17, the eastbound Douglas Boulevard exit from eastbound I-80 will be closed. Drivers will be detoured to Eureka Road where they can then take southbound Sunrise Avenue back to Douglas Boulevard. The off-ramp is scheduled to re-open by 12 midnight on January 28.

Motorists should expect delays associated with the closure and detours. Unexpected weather may also prolong or cause the work to be rescheduled. Roadside message boards will post the latest information. Caltrans also urges all motorists to use caution in this area and to "Slow for the Cone Zone."

The traffic restrictions are a necessary part of the work on a $35 million project by the City of Roseville to improve the I-80/Douglas Boulevard interchange. Key features of the project include an 800-foot tunnel that will allow traffic heading north on Sunrise Avenue to board eastbound I-80 and a "fly-over" ramp that will allow traffic on eastbound Douglas to cross I-80 and connect to southbound Sunrise Avenue. Completion is scheduled in the fall 2005.
