Rock Scaling Operations Scheduled in Placer County

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

MARYSVILLE – The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) will remove loose rocks from slopes to help prevent rock falls from occuring throughout the year and will also remove rock from existing benches to improve drainage. Rock scaling operations will be performed on Interstate 80 in Placer County near an area known as Little Windy.

Westbound motorists will be slowed by the California Highway Patrol (CHP) near Kingvale and traffic will be stopped at Yuba Gap, one mile west of the project.  All work will be accomplished between the hours of 5AM and 4PM, Monday through Thursday, July 12 through 15, 2004.  Westbound motorists will be subject to delays of up to 30 minutes during this work.  Eastbound traffic will be monitored but lengthy delays are not anticipated.

Changeable message signs and a highway advisory radio will alert motorists to the project and the delays.  Motorists can tune their radio to 1610AM.

Caltrans and the CHP urge the motoring public to use caution, be patient and to PLEASE "Slow for the Cone Zone."
