SACRAMENTO – The California Department of Transportation
(Caltrans) announces that the existing westbound Interstate 80 (I-80) on/off
ramps at Sierra College Boulevard (Blvd) will be closed 24 hours a day from
April 10 through April 14. Starting
April 15, motorists can expect the entire interchange and overpass to be
closed. No through traffic will be
allowed on Sierra College Blvd between Granite Drive and Rocklin Road. The interchange is scheduled to reopen on
April 25. Motorists should be aware
that the interchange reopens utilizing new on/off ramp alignments.
Motorists are being advised to use the I-80 Rocklin
Road Interchange as an alternate route and to expect delays. Changeable message signs have been placed
along the highway alerting motorists of the closure and to mark the detour
provided. Unexpected schedule changes
may occur, motorists are advised to check roadside message boards for the
latest closure information.
This closure
is part of the $25 million project to rebuild and modernize the I-80 Sierra
College Blvd. Interchange. This project
will upgrade the overcrossing to five lanes, install bike lanes and increase
the vertical clearance. The project is
scheduled for completion in late 2008.
Motorists are advised to use caution when traveling through the
construction area and to “Slow For the Cone Zone”.
