SR-55 Frequently Asked Questions

How can I get more information about the SR-55 construction project?

You can call our Transportation Hotline at 1-800-724-0353 for help or information. Full-time, biligual staffing is provided Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

What are the roles of Caltrans and OCTA in Orange County transportation?

Caltrans operates and maintains the state freeways and highway system and is responsible for administering construction activity on state highways, including the SR-55 Improvement Projects as the owner/operator of the state freeway and highway system.

OCTA is a local public agency made up of the jurisdictions in Orange County, and works closely with local government, business and communities to develop and implement a unified, coordinated countywide transportation program. OCTA is also the agency responsible for administering Measure M funding.

Caltrans and OCTA work in partnership to provide the people of Orange County with a safe, efficient and comprehensive transportation system.

How is the SR-55 North Improvement Project related to other SR-55 improvement projects?

Other construction projects along the SR-55 from the 91/55 interchange all the way down over to the 405/55 interchange in Costa Mesa, are providing Orange County commuters with numerous transportation improvements, as well as miles of continuous HOV lanes. The completed sections will improve the flow of traffic with far less congestion, smooth HOV transitions through direct freeway-to-freeway HOV connectors, innovative design features that help traffic flow more efficiently, award-winning solutions to transportation problems, and better overall air quality.
