Emergency Repairs on Eastbound I-8
SAN DIEGO –– Caltrans construction crews are working around-the-clock to fill a large sinkhole on the right shoulder on eastbound Interstate 8 (I-8) west of College Avenue. The two far right lanes and the eastbound Waring Road on-ramp will remain closed while the work is ongoing.
Travelers are urged to avoid the area and to find alternate routes to reach their destinations.
The sinkhole was discovered shortly after 10 this morning. The dimensions of the sinkhole are 30 feet long, 20 feet wide and 20 feet deep. Crews expect to complete the work and reopen the lanes before the Friday afternoon commute.
The San Diego Metropolitan Transit System Green Line Trolley is a parallel alternate route with free parking available at several locations. See http://www.sdmts.com/rider-info/transit-station-parking#Green Line for more information.
