I-8 Closed at Dogwood Road Monday and Tuesday Nights
EL CENTRO, Calif. –– Caltrans reported that crews will close Interstate 8 (I-8) in both directions at Dogwood Road in the city of El Centro in Imperial County on Monday and Tuesday nights from 8 until 6 in the morning. The closures are needed to demolish the Dogwood Street Overcrossing as part of I-8/Dogwood Road Interchange Project.
Motorists will be detoured to exit the freeway at the Dogwood Road off-ramp and then continue to the I-8 on-ramp. Dogwood Road will remain open.
Crews will remove a portion of the existing overcrossing each night. All debris will be picked up and the freeway cleaned before opening to traffic. No significant delays are expected.
Caltrans completed and opened the east side portion of the new structure in November and anticipates completing this portion of the project by fall 2016.
The $31 million project will widen ramps and replace the Dogwood Road Overcrossing, widening it from two to six lanes, including two turning lanes. The improvements will help reduce congestion at freeway on- and off-ramps and provide easier access to local streets.

Motorists are reminded to Be Work Zone Alert and to Move Over a lane when safe to do so, or slow when highway workers are present with amber lights flashing.
