Planned Closures for Interstate 5/Genesee Avenue Interchange Project
SAN DIEGO –The southbound Interstate 5 (I-5) “LOCAL BYPASS” lanes will be closed Sunday night, motorists will be transitioned to southbound Interstate 805 (I-805). This closure will take place between 7 p.m. and 5 a.m.
Motorists on the bypass lanes will continue on southbound I-805 to westbound State Route 52 to I-5.
Northbound I-5 travelers will experience lanes closures, between Genesee Avenue and Roselle Street. The closures will allow crews to place temporary concrete barriers and restripe highway lanes.
The $105 million project will replace the existing six-lane Genesee Avenue overcrossing with a ten-lane structure that will include additional vehicle lanes, sidewalks and bicycle lanes to better accommodate current and future traffic demands in the San Diego region. The project will also widen the on and off-ramps, add a northbound auxiliary lane on I-5 between Genesee Avenue and Roselle Street, and construct a new, separated bicycle/pedestrian path.
The I-5/Genesee Avenue Interchange Project is expected to be completed in 2017.
