Overnight Closures on I-805 in Chula Vista

SAN DIEGO –– Construction crews will close all southbound lanes on Interstate 805 (I-805) between East Orange Avenue/Olympic Parkway and Telegraph Canyon Road in Chula Vista on Wednesday, Thursday, and Sunday between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m. to accommodate the removal of falsework – temporary supports for bridge construction.

During the closures, travelers are urged to avoid the area or take alternate routes. Motorists will be detoured around the closures via Telegraph Canyon Road, Medical Center Drive, Brandywine Avenue, and Olympic Parkway. Northbound lanes will remain open during this time.

Additional closures of up to three lanes along the same segment of I-805 are planned to further accommodate this work. Tonight, closures are planned along northbound I-805 between 9 p.m. and 4 a.m. Tuesday, closures are planned along southbound I-805 between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m.  Closures are also planned along northbound I-805 on Dec. 21 and 22 between 9 p.m. and 4 a.m.

Although crews will work to minimize impacts to businesses, residents and commuters, nearby residents can expect intermittent lights and noise during these construction activities.

The improvements under construction at East Palomar Street are part of the first phase of the I-805 South Express Lanes Project, a $1.1 billion effort to create a modern new transportation backbone for South County. The first phase of the I-805 South Express Lanes Project will be completed in early 2016.

Motorists are reminded to Be Work Zone Alert and to Move Over a lane when safe to do so, or slow when highway workers are present with amber lights flashing.
