Caltrans Contractor Struck and Killed

SAN DIEGO – A landscape contractor working for Caltrans was killed shortly before 3 p.m. today when struck by an errant vehicle near the northbound Interstate 15 off-ramp to Centre City Parkway in the city of Escondido.

The man’s identity is being withheld pending notification of family.  He was employed by the Pacific Restoration Group out of Perris, California.

“This is a stark reminder of the dangers of working along the highway.  I am asking motorists to limit distractions and drive with care, especially when highway workers are present,” said Caltrans District Director Laurie Berman.

Details of the incident are under investigation by the California Highway Patrol.
