I-805 Overnight Closures This Week
SAN DIEGO –– Construction crews will close all southbound lanes on Interstate 805 (I-805) from the Interstate 5 (I-5)/I-805 merge to La Jolla Village Drive Tuesday and Wednesday nights, from 9:30 until 5 in the morning. All northbound I-805 lanes will be closed from La Jolla Village Drive to Mira Mesa Boulevard on Thursday night, for the same hours.
The closures are necessary for bridge demolition and to pour concrete for the widening of the I-805 bridges over Carroll Canyon.
During the southbound closures, motorists will be detoured to southbound I-5, then to eastbound State Route 52 (SR-52) to I-805. During the northbound closures, motorists will be detoured to westbound SR-52, to northbound I-5, and back to I-805. Local traffic will be permitted to exit I-805 at Governor Drive and Nobel Drive. Directional signage will be placed to assists motorists through the designated detour route.
Stage 1 of the I-805 North Express Lanes Project is constructing one carpool lane in each direction in the median of I-805 from just north of SR-52 to just north of Mira Mesa Boulevard. The project also includes construction of a Direct Access Ramp to and from southbound I-805 at Carroll Canyon Road. Additional improvements include bridge widening and ramp modifications.
Improvements to I-805 will help accommodate the projected population and employment growth in the region by connecting employment and activity centers including offices, shopping, recreational facilities, communities, and schools.
The construction cost for Stage 1 is about $86 million and is funded with state, federal, and local sources, including Proposition 1B State-Local Partnership Program and TransNet Extension funds.
