Southbound I-805 Closed Nights at I-805/I-5 Merge

SAN DIEGO –– Caltrans advises motorists that night closures will take place on southbound Interstate 805 (I-805) from the Interstate 5/I-805 merge to La Jolla Village Drive Monday–Thursday from 9:30 until 5 in the morning.

The closures will allow crews to place falsework, a temporary bridge support system used during bridge construction, for the I-805 North Express Lanes Project.

Motorists on southbound I-805 will be detoured to southbound I-5, to eastbound SR-52, to northbound or southbound I-805.

Stage 1 of the I-805 North Express Lanes Project will construct one carpool lane in each direction in the median of I-805 from SR-52 to Mira Mesa Boulevard.  The project also includes construction of a Direct Access Ramp to and from southbound I-805 at Carroll Canyon Road.  Additional improvements include bridge widening and ramp modifications.  This stage is estimated to cost approximately $86 million and is funded with state, federal and local sources, including Proposition 1B State and Local Partnership program and TransNet Extension dollars.

Project information is available at or by calling the Project Hotline at (877) 821-4280.  Follow and visit to keep current on transportation information.

Motorists are reminded to Be Work Zone Alert and to Move Over a lane when safe to do so, or slow when highway workers are present with amber lights flashing.
