Night Closures on Interstate 8/Dogwood Road
EL CENTRO –– Crews will close a portion of westbound Interstate 8 (I-8) at Dogwood Road in the city of El Centro in Imperial County on Tuesday from 9:30 p.m.-5 a.m., according to Caltrans. Crews will switch to the eastbound direction on Wednesday from 9 p.m.-5 a.m.
The closures are needed to install falsework, a temporary support structure used in construction when building the overcrossing, as part of the I-8 Dogwood Road Interchange Project that began construction last fall.
Detour signs will be posted directing motorists to exit the freeway at Dogwood Road and then continue to the I-8 on-ramp. No significant delays are expected.
The $31 million project will widen ramps and replace the Dogwood Road overcrossing, widening it from two to six lanes including turning lanes. The improvements will help reduce congestion at freeway on- and off-ramps on Dogwood Road and provide easier access to local streets. Construction is expected to be completed in fall 2016.
