Overnight Closures of Mira Mesa Boulevard at Interstate 805

SAN DIEGO – Construction crews will close all lanes on Mira Mesa Boulevard at Interstate 805 (I-805) Wednesday and Thursday from 9 p.m. until 5 a.m. The closure is required to install temporary concrete traffic barriers (k-rail).

Motorists traveling westbound on Mira Mesa Boulevard will be detoured to northbound I-805, then merged onto northbound Interstate 5 (I-5) and exited at Carmel Mountain Road. Traffic will be directed west to southbound I-5. The detour will continue on southbound I-805 to westbound Mira Mesa Boulevard. Motorists traveling eastbound on Mira Mesa Boulevard will be detoured to southbound I-805 and exited at Miramar Road. Traffic will be directed east to northbound I-805 and continue to eastbound Mira Mesa Boulevard. Electronic message signs are in place along Mira Mesa Boulevard and detour signs will be placed near the work area to assist motorists around the closure.

One of the westbound lanes on Mira Mesa Boulevard will remain closed until the bridge construction is complete. Motorists should anticipate possible delays and allow more time to reach their destination. Through traffic may consider using an alternate route such as Carroll Canyon Road.

The work is part of Stage 1 of the I-805 North Express Lanes Project. The project will construct one carpool lane in each direction in the median of I-805 from just north of SR-52 to just north of Mira Mesa Boulevard. The project will also construct a south-facing Direct Access Ramp to and from I-805 at Carroll Canyon Road. Estimated cost for this stage is $86 million.
