Interstate 5 Freeway Shoulders Open to Bicyclists Saturday Morning
SAN DIEGO – Motorists should be aware that they will be sharing the road with bicyclists along Interstate 5 this Saturday morning.
Bicyclists will be permitted to ride along the outside freeway shoulders along Interstate 5 (I-5) between Las Pulgas and Cristianitos roads on Saturday between 6 a.m. and 2 p.m. while the Old Highway 101 bike path through Camp Pendleton is closed for an athletic event.
According to Caltrans, the I-5 Cristianitos Road southbound on-ramp and northbound off-ramp will be closed to vehicles but open to bicyclists during the same time.
Caltrans will have signs in place along the route to alert bicyclists that they must exit at all off-ramps including the weigh station and vista point to avoid the possibility of traffic conflicts with vehicles.
Motorists are advised to expect delays in the area and are urged to make alternate plans to travel another route or at another time if possible.
