Cabrillo Bridge Night Work Continues
SAN DIEGO – Night work continues through Saturday morning and will be scheduled as needed through early March as part of the Cabrillo Bridge Retrofit and Rehabilitation Project (Laurel Street Overcrossing) in Balboa Park.
The work will take place from midnight to 10 a.m. and will be noisy at times, according to Caltrans. It is part of the $38 million project to seismically retrofit the nearly century-old bridge and resurface the Laurel Street Overcrossing.
The bridge deck is temporarily closed to vehicles but pedestrians still have access. Depending on the work, flaggers may direct pedestrians through the construction zone.
Caltrans and the city of San Diego are partners on the project, with the focus to finish construction on the iconic structure ahead of the Balboa Park 2015 Centennial Celebration. The nighttime hours are needed to accommodate the schedules of the many contractors working on the bridge at the same time. Caltrans asks for the public’s patience during this project.
