Closure of Southbound Interstate 805 at East Palomar Street Scheduled for Thursday Night
SAN DIEGO – Southbound Interstate 805 (I-805) will be closed overnight between Telegraph Canyon Road and East Orange Avenue in Chula Vista on Thursday to accommodate construction of bridge falsework (temporary wood forms) on the new East Palomar Street overcrossing at I-805.
Two lanes of southbound I-805 will be closed between 9 p.m. and midnight and all southbound lanes will be closed between midnight and 5 a.m. The northbound lanes will remain open.
If additional time is needed to complete this work, crews will return on Monday and/or Tuesday and perform the same closure of southbound lanes as detailed above.
Motorists will be detoured to eastbound Telegraph Canyon Road, then southbound on Medical Center Drive/Brandywine Avenue and westbound on Olympic Parkway/East Orange Street to southbound I-805.
Truck traffic will be detoured to westbound State Route 54, then southbound on Interstate 5, and eastbound on State Route 905 to southbound I-805.
Freeway message signs will be posted with closure information. Motorists are urged to avoid the area or take alternative routes. Residents adjacent to the construction site can expect intermittent construction noise and lights.
Construction of the East Palomar Street DAR, Transit Station and Park & Ride is the first phase of the I-805 South Express Lanes Project, a $1.4 billion effort to create a modern new transportation backbone for South County. The project is expected to be completed in winter 2014.
