Southbound SR-163 Closed Through Park On Sunday

SAN DIEGO – The California Debarment of Transportation (Caltrans) is advising motorists that southbound State Route 163 (SR-163) through the Balboa Park area will be closed Sunday morning from 3-11.

The southbound side of SR-163 will be closed between Interstate 8 (I-8) and I-5, including the ramps from westbound and eastbound I-8.

Detour signs will be placed directing westbound I-8 travelers to continue westbound to southbound I-5.

Travelers on eastbound I-8 will be detoured on to southbound I-805, to westbound SR-94 to southbound I-5.

The closures are needed so that landscape, maintenance, electrical, bridge and litter removal workers can safely make repairs and perform much needed tasks to maintain the roadway. The work is scheduled when traffic volumes are at their lowest.

Motorists are reminded to slow down and safely move over a lane when Caltrans or other emergency vehicles are displaying flashing amber lights. It’s the law!
