No Bicycle Access to Camp Pendleton Saturday Morning
SAN DIEGO – Bicycle access to Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton between Harbor Drive and Las Pulgas Road will be closed on Saturday from 5 a.m. until noon to accommodate an event on base.
Bicyclists are permitted to ride on the freeway shoulders along Interstate 5 between Harbor Drive and Las Pulgas Road. The bike path north of Las Pulgas Road will remain open.
Bicyclists should be aware that riding on freeway shoulders is not recommended for other than expert riders. Bicyclists using freeway shoulders where permitted must exit at all off-ramps, weigh stations and viewpoints to avoid the possibility of conflict with motorists.
A map of the locations where bicycles are permitted on freeway shoulders in San Diego and Imperial counties is available on the Caltrans District 11 website at http://ow.ly/9EY52.
Questions about the closure should be directed to Deputy Director for Camp Pendleton Semper Fit Division Sam Pelham at 760-763-3796.
