Caltrans to Open New Portion of Nordahl Road Bridge
SAN DIEGO –
The west side of the Nordahl Road Bridge over State Route 78 (SR-78) in North County will be opening to traffic beginning Friday morning at 5. Portions of the lanes will be limited during this time while construction on the bridge continues through the next few weeks.
Construction of the Nordahl Road Bridge Replacement began in late February 2012. The first phase of work reconstructed the east side of the bridge. The second phase of construction to rebuild the west side of the bridge is nearing completion. The full bridge with an additional turn lane on to SR-78 will be completed in November 2012.
The Nordahl Road Bridge Replacement is one of three projects in the area. Working collaboratively, the cities of San Marcos and Escondido, the San Diego Association of Governments, and Caltrans are investing $41.1 million to address the severe congestion in the vicinity of Interstate15/SR-78 and to prepare for future carpool lanes on SR-78.
