Caltrans San Diego Unveils Use Of Twitter For Highway Closure Information
SAN DIEGO – The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) in San Diego announced today that it is joining the age of social media by offering transportation information for people who use Twitter.
Starting on Monday, May 16, Caltrans will offer its “followers” on Twitter timely “Tweets” on highway closure information – both planned construction and maintenance closures and incidents expected to create lengthy traffic delays in the San Diego Region. The service will initially be available weekdays, from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. and in the event of after-hours highway emergencies.
“It’s another tool we are offering the motoring public in an effort to help provide more choices in daily commutes on our state highways,” said Caltrans District Director Laurie Berman. “We hope to expand the service sometime in the future to include project information, but for now we’ll be focused on the info that has a more immediate impact on travelers.”
